House of Forrest is a small building of seven serviced apartments in Nagarjun, on the green northwestern edge of Kathmandu. We host a lot of long-stay guests: researchers, consultants, people on development contracts, writers, and travellers who decided Nepal deserved more than two weeks. A mid-range hotel room in Thamel runs $35 to $60 a night, which is $1,000 to $1,800 a month, with no kitchen and no laundry. An unfurnished flat is cheaper per month but requires a deposit, a year-long lease, furniture, setting up your own utility accounts, and often a Nepali guarantor. Neither works well for a three-month contract.
A serviced apartment sits in between: furnished and ready on the day you arrive, with everything bundled into one number, and no commitment beyond the dates you book. For most people staying one to six months, it is the cheapest option once you count the cost of eating out and the time lost setting up a flat.
Nagarjun is residential, so the rhythm is different from the tourist districts. Local grocery shops and vegetable sellers are within a few minutes on foot, there are pharmacies and small clinics nearby, and the neighbourhood is quiet after dark. Thamel is about ten minutes by taxi when you want restaurants and bars, and the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park gate is a twenty minute walk when you want to get out of the city entirely.
Long-stay guests tend to fall into a routine of working in the morning, walking in the forest in the afternoon, and cooking at home most evenings. If that sounds appealing, this is the right neighbourhood. If you want to be able to walk home from a bar at 2am, central Thamel will suit you better.

Everything. Electricity, water, WiFi, weekly housekeeping, bed linen, towels and parking are all included in the price. There are no separate utility bills to set up and no deposit for services.
Yes. You can pay in cash in any major currency, by international bank transfer to our Rastriya Banijya Bank account, or through Nepali payment apps if you have them. No local bank account or citizenship documents are needed.
No formal lease. We confirm your dates and rate in writing by email and WhatsApp, and that is the agreement. This keeps things simple if your plans change.
Yes. Apartments include a washing machine, and housekeeping comes once a week as standard. Longer-stay guests often arrange extra cleaning, which we can add for a small fee.
Yes. We have fibre broadband and guests regularly take video calls from the apartments. If the mains power drops, our backup keeps the internet and lights running.
